Expert committee nod for schools at 100% capacity

PANAJI

The Expert Committee advising the State government on Covid-19 management has recommended that schools be permitted to conduct regular physical classes at 100 per cent occupancy with the State's positivity rate for daily new infections consistently reported at under 2% for the last few days.

The committee which met on Monday has also made similar recommendations for permitting businesses to begin normal operations but has cautioned that only those who are fully vaccinated be permitted.

Movie theatres, multiplexes, swimming pools, indoor venues for events, Spas and such other business activities can be permitted to function normally, the committee has said in its recommendations to the State government.

It has however cautioned that all activity should be restricted to those who are fully vaccinated and otherwise people produce RT-PCR negative reports. Use of masks should continue to be mandatory, it said.

Following the expert panel's recommendations, a firm decision is now expected to be taken by the State government and a formal order containing fresh standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be issued in the next few days by the Revenue Secretary on behalf of the State Disaster Management Authority.

Positivity rate of fresh infections meanwhile continued to be under 2% with just 18 new cases reported in the last 24 hours and as many as 1,005 samples were tested.

The Covid-19 active caseload of the State also dropped to 271.
