Suraj Naik, chief coordinator of the "Vision for All" and Assistant PS to Union Minister Shripad Naik on Saturday morning said that the eye camp initiative taken by the Goa Government had been very successful and that around 8,156 spectacles will be distributed and 1,213 eye surgeries were being taken up under the initiative.
Naik was speaking to reporters alongside a programme organized at Ravindra Bhavan to distribute free spectacles to the people who had participated in the programme at Mormugao taluka earlier.
"The "Vision for all" inituative of the government has been a great success and there were around 100 eye check camps planned but due to Covid, only 14 camps were held in Goa. However 15,000 people participated in these camps and the highest participation was from Vasco where 2,074 people participated and 1,213 free spectacles will be distributed here." Naik said.
"1,233 people were to have eye surgeries and we have already performed 110 eye surgeries in Udupi and 150 eye surgeries have been performed under Goa health department and the remaining were pending due to Covid and will be completed in due course. We had tremendous response and we have also offered many major surgeries. In the past, under Shripad Naik foundation eye camp, we have offered over 800 eye surgeries . All these surgeries have been successful and if we have less civid cases, we will hold the balance eye camps before December 19," said Naik.
Meanwhile Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Damodar Kaskar said that the aim of the programme was to ensure no one in Goa has any vision-related issues and thanked CM Dr Pramod Sawant and Urban Development minister Milind Naik for the initiative.
