Stating that the State government implemented various schemes for the farmers, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza said Goans have to depend on neighbouring states for supply of vegetables and to change the current situation, farmers should take the initiative to become self-sufficient.

He was speaking during the launching of a website and door-to-door garbage collection for Aldona Panchayat on Tuesday. Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo, Aldona Sarpanch Trisha Naik, Deputy Sarpanch Deepak Naik, panchayat secretary Charudatt Panjikar, Bardez Block Development Officer Krishnakant Pangam, BJP Mandal president Frankie Carvalho and others were present.

Speaking further, D'Souza said Goans have to also depend on neighbouring states for electricity, water, vegetables, milk, grains and other commodities. “If something goes wrong in the neighbouring states, Goans have to face effects of it,” he said.

“Instead of depending on neighbouring states, we should try to fulfill our needs on our own by contributing for the agriculture production. A lot of land in Goa is lying unused. Farmers should avail benefits of the schemes and become self-sufficient in agriculture,” said D'Souza.

D'Souza also applauded the Aldona Panchayat for taking an initiative of door-to-door garbage collection in the panchayat jurisdiction.
