An FDA team led by Richard Noronha continued the agency’s drive for hygiene checks on food outlets, shutting down five outlets in Socorro and Karaswada, including ‘dum biryani’ outlets, for not meeting standards on Wednesday evening.

Of the seven outlets the team inspected, two resumed operations following compliance, and the five others have remained shut.  The team also shut down two ‘dum biryani’ outlets in Colvale for unhygienic conditions.

Apart from Noronha, the team comprised four more officers — Rajaram Patil, Lenin De Sa, Amit Mandrekar, and Sneha Gaude — and was guided by FDA director Shweta Desai. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane took to X and cited the operation to say: “Our intent is clear, the health and safety of all in Goa is paramount. We will continue stringent checks to uphold food safety standards.”
