The raid was conducted at Suraj Sweet Mart and also at the owner’s residence at Chaudi, as FDA officials led by Food & Drugs Inspector Shivdas Naik and Sainath Mandrekar collected samples of all the sweets, water and lassi from both the places.
“A Chaudi resident had complained to Team Goenkar with photographic proof that the sweetmart was selling adulterated mineral water cans. The local said that the water bottles were being filled with tap water at the residence of the sweetmart owner and were being sold at the shop. Later, we notified the police and the FDA,” informed Sandesh Telekar, a member of Team Goenkar.
The locals also feared that the sweets and lassi sold at the shop could also be adulterated.
On Thursday, the FDA officials raided the Suraj Sweet Mart and the owner’s residence. They took samples of water, sweets and lassi from his shop and residence.
