PONDA
The officials of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday raided a popcorn making unit at Dattagad-Bethora, Ponda, and seized goods worth Rs 7.84 lakh.
FDA inspector Rajaram Patil along with other staff raided the unit after collecting information from the market about the product. During the raid, the FDA officials found that raw material used for making popcorn had expired a year ago, which could create health-related problems.
The raw material seized had expired in January 2017. The FDA has appealed to the public to refrain from purchasing this item. The team seized 275 bags of raw material and 163 bags of finished product.
Patil informed that they will lift the popcorn product from the market after taking details from the manufacturer and supplier. “We need to know where he has supplied these popcorn and after getting these details, we will start the process of lifting it,” Patil said.
