Francis Pereira, who is accused in the desecration cases in South Goa, finally walked free from Colvale jail after he fulfilled the conditions of the court on Wednesday evening.
His brother came to pick him up at the Colvale jail and he was released at around 6 pm. Pereira was released on bail after nearly six months.
“CM Manohar Parrikar and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral are the masterminds behind implicating me in the desecration cases,” Pereira said to the media, welling up in tears.
He said he had worked against Parrikar and Cabral in the 2007 elections and the duo were trying to take revenge now. He said now that he was free, he would expose them.
Accused in a number of desecration cases which rocked the state last year, Pereira was released from jail after being arrested six months back.
The court had ordered the release of the alleged accused on bail two days back. However, he furnished the bond of Rs 10,000 on Wednesday and was consequently released from custody.
However, the accused will not be able to celebrate his release so soon as more cases are lined up in Margao, Canacona and Sanguem courts. There are also cases to be filed in Quepem court as well.
Over a hundred desecration cases involving crosses and temples were reported in the last couple of years in South Goa, which police claim were committed by Pereira.
However, police have failed to convince the courts about his  involvement in most of the cases.
