A fire broke out on the first floor of a house near Maruti Temple in the Housing Board Colony at Porvorim on Sunday afternoon, causing damage to property worth around Rs 5 lakh.
According to information from the Porvorim Fire Station, the fire call was received at around 13:25 hours reporting that a blaze had erupted at the residence of Asha Sapre. Station Officer Sandeep Naik, along with staff, rushed to the spot with one fire tender. A second fire tender was later called in from Panaji to assist in the operation.
As the fire had broken out on the first floor, fire personnel faced difficulties in bringing it under control. After an operation lasting around one hour and twenty minutes, the flames were fully doused.
Items including a laptop, stationery, handbags and rooftop materials were destroyed in the fire. The owner has estimated the loss at Rs 5 lakh, while fire services personnel managed to save property worth over Rs 10 lakh.
Officials from the Porvorim Fire Station said the cause of the fire is not yet known.
