The first cable of the New Zuari Bridge was installed on Friday morning in the presence of PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar and officials of PWD and Dilip Buildcon Limited (DBL).

A presentation on the technology used and other aspects were shown to Pauskar and PWD officials, which was followed by a pooja and the installation of the cable.

Speaking on the occasion, PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar said it was decided that one four-lane side of the eight-lane road on all three packages of the New Zuari Bridge would be opened to public before May 2021.

“All eight lanes -- four lanes on each side -- will be opened to public by December 2021. Every month, engineers of PWD and DBL have a review meeting. We are sure the works will be completed on time so that people can take benefit of the project.”

“By now, 90% of Package 3 of the bridge is complete, 75% of Package 2 is complete and 70% of Package 1 is complete. We are sure that by the new year, service roads of all three packages will be completed,” said Pauskar.

“The span of the cable stayed bridge of around 360 mtrs on the New Zuari Bridge is the second biggest in India and when the bridge is completed, it will be India’s widest 8-lane cable stayed bridge.”

“The designer is from France and besides, we have IIT Mumbai as the third party to check the designs. This is an iconic bridge which will be completed on time,” said Pauskar.

According to information, a total of 224 cables will be installed on this bridge, with each cable having a length of 640 metres. The 14-km bridge comprising three packages has 2,700 people -- 1,400 staff and 1,300 labourers -- working on the project.
