The pink rickshaw concept is catching on with the State’s first electric pink rickshaw being launched from Mapusa on Tuesday.
The pink rick will be driven by only a lady and preferably only women passengers will be allowed to travel in the rickshaw.
Launching the pink rickshaw, Mapusa MLA, Joshua D’Souza informed that it was a very innovative concept and was proud to inaugurate the first of its kind rickshaw from the Mapusa town.
“It’s designed to strictly allow only women passengers taking into consideration their security. But if men are accompanied by women partners then they may allow the couple to travel in it,” D’Souza said.
He said the pink rickshaw launched in Mapusa was first in Goa and also first in the country.
The proud owner of the first pink rick in Mapusa is Priti Kerkar, a resident of Housing Board, Mapusa.
The Rotary Club of Mapusa has felicitated the launching of the pink rick in town.
Altogether five such pink rickshaws will be launched in Mapusa.
Two months ago, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had announced that the State would soon introduce women driven auto-rickshaws as part of the Pink Rickshaw initiative in partnership with the Rotary Club.
The State already has a ‘Pink Force’, a fleet of police personnel dedicated to curbing crimes against women which was launched by the State government some months back.
