And, don't be further surprised if the messy retail fish market gets a new look with other amenities along with round-the-clock Konkani music, including songs of Goan nightingale Lorna.
Shortly after a delegation of the retail fish vendors led by Fish Vendors Association president Felix
Gonsalves called on TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai in the South Collectorate on Thursday morning, Felix told The Goan that the fish vendors would take the initiative by doing business by sitting on the platf
orms, after the minister handing out a promise to the vendors to crack a whip against retail sale of fish in the wholesale fish market.
Felix Gonsalves says: "We had called on the TCP Minister with a plea to order a crackdown on the illegal retail sale of fish in the wholesale fish market. The minister was receptive to our demand, but he has asked for some time since the PDA has plans to build a new wholesale fish market. Since the minister has sought our cooperation to put the retail fish market in order, we have decided to take the initiative to sit on the platforms from October 1."
Felix pointed out that the TCP Minister has promised to spruce up the retail fish market and bring about a turn around.
The TCP Minister said that he would visit the PDA retail fish market after Dussehra along with the PDA officials to understand the problems of the fish vendors. "I have requested the vendors to cooperate with the PDA. My first request to the fish vendors was to sit on the platforms. They replied back saying that retail sale of fish continues in the wholesale fish market. The PDA has decided to rebuild the wholesale fish market," Vijai said.
He pointed out that the PDA would give a new look to the retail fish market by giving a traditional Goemkar touch.
"Let the fish vendors sit on the platforms and if they want any modification of the platforms, the PDA would take up the exercise of ushering in the changes," Vijai told The Goan.
