The Fisheries Department has finally cracked a whip against the illegal parking of dinghies at the Cutbona fishing jetty.
After the expiry of the seven-day notice by the department on November 11, Superintendent of Fisheries South Varsha Naik Desai on Tuesday hired a crane to tow away the three dinghies illegal parked on the main jetty.
The three dinghies were later docked at the Fisheries Department complex near the jetty. The operation was conducted by officials of the Fisheries Department in the presence of the managing committee of the fisheries stakeholders and officers and personnel of the Cuncolim police and coastal police.
The Superintendent of Fisheries later told the media that the department has initiated the action against the dinghies after the expiry of the seven-day notice period. “These dinghies belonged to unknown persons since neither they had any names nor the registration number,” she said.
Chairman of the Cutbona Fisheries Society, Savio D’Silva told the media that the action against the illegal parking of dinghies on the Cutbona fishing jetty was long overdue.
“We welcome the decision of the Fisheries Department in towing away the dinghies from the jetty since they had come in the way of the smooth fishing activities,” he said.
