Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday sought the intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to save hundreds of Goan voters, especially mundcars and tenants, facing the prospects of getting deleted in the ongoing SIR exercise.

In his interaction with the media after his weekly darbar at Goemkar Ghor, the Fatorda MLA said those who are staying on rent under the Leave and Licence Agreement are required to prove that he has the right to vote. “This will mostly affect the Goan mundcars and tenants. I am not talking about the voters from Nepal, Bangladesh and others staying in the State. Where are the Goan mundcars and tenants supposed to show their permanent place of residence,” he said.

Saying that he has spoken to the Chief Minister of Tuesday morning after a group of voters approached with their grievances, Sardesai said, “As an elected representative, I personally know many of these voters, who are either staying in rented premises or are mundcars.”
