Five panchas of Loliem-Polem panchayat moved a no-confidence motion against sarpanch Bushan Prabhugaonkar on Friday evening.
The five panchas - Shailesh Pagi, Rajesh Naik, Caitania Dias, Shilpa Daiker and Santan Da Costa, stated they had no confidence in the sarpanch and cited three different reasons.
The panchas alleged that the sarpanch was misusing the office for personal and political gains, had been biased during panchayat meetings and had not taken their opinions into consideration.
According to BDO sources, though the date is not fixed yet, a special meeting would be convened soon as demanded by the five panchas to take up and discuss the no-confidence motion against the sarpanch.
Speaking to The Goan, a pancha who has signed the motion, said the locals had been aggrieved at the sarpanch's behaviour over his stand on the proposed IIT campus on Bhagwati plateau.
Said Panch Da Costa: “The sarpanch's initial tactic of saying he was with the villagers by claiming to be ignorant about the proposed IIT project and on the other hand, working hard to ensure that the IIT is set up in the village has been exposed in public.”
Added another panch, Shailesh Pagi, “We will see the no-confidence motion is passed, whenever it is taken up.”
