With the cyclone passing parallel to the Goa coast on Friday, people who use the ferry services from different points in the State faced a hard time as the boarding and get-off points were completely flooded, and people had to wade with their bikes through the water to get onto the ferries.

The weather also affected the Chorao island in a big way, with peoples’ sole way of entry and exit from the island - the ferry point, completely flooded.

At the Chorao ferry point, motorists had to be helped by two or three others to be able to get onto the ferry. Further, ferries were far and few between, The Goan learnt, and for the rare ferry, people were queuing up for at least two kilometers.

Meanwhile, several electricity poles fell in Tiswadi, even blocking roads. A commuter told The Goan that the Panaji-Ribandar causeway was blocked.

In contrast to Thursday which saw chaos on the Panaji-Margao highway, Friday was the complete opposite, with hardly any traffic problems, and the ride was back to being a 45-minute journey, commuters said.

While most schools are already on Diwali vacation, students studying in colleges affiliated to Goa University could breathe a little easy as the Vice Chancellor issued a note stating that exams scheduled for October 25 and 26 have been postponed on account of the weather. New dates will be intimated to the colleges shortly.
