After the residents of Ribandar filed a complaint with the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) that the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) body had not properly restored the roads in Ribandar after digging them up, officials from GHRC conducted a road inspection on Monday.
Secretary Margaret Fernandes and Police Inspector Manoj Mardolkar from GHRC inspected the roads, along with complainant Adv Aires Rodrigues, local corporator Rupesh Harlankar, officials of IPSCDL and Deputy Collector Sagar Gaude.
The officials from the Commission are set to submit their report to the Commission on July 5, when the hearing of the case is scheduled.
Acting chairman of GHRC, A D Salkar had on June 24 directed that an inspection of the roads in Ribandar be conducted. The directions were issued following a complaint filed by Adv Rodrigues that the human rights of the residents of Ribandar were "grossly violated by the rank inaction of the authorities to the alarming state of the Ribandar roads which were recklessly dug up in May by the IPSCDL."
Adv Rodrigues submitted to the GHRC that if there had been proper co-ordination between the IPSCDL, PWD and BSNL, the inconvenience caused to the residents of Ribandar who were left without water supply and telephone service for almost a month could have been avoided.
He further pointed out that the restoration work of the dug up roads has not been done properly and the same will be washed away in the current monsoon bringing further misery to the local residents and the commuting public for which the IPSCDL would be solely responsible.
