MARGAO
Come March and Goa will play host to a world class food-testing laboratory and a certifying authority, whose certificate is valid globally, as Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday inaugurated the new office and laboratory complex of Export Inspection Agency set up by the Export Inspection Council.
Prabhu further said that Goa will be one of the 13 coastal States in the country which will now have world class testing lab in the State.
Inaugurating the testing facility in the presence of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and TCP Minister, Vijai Sardesai at the SGPDA market complex on Sunday, Prabhu said it is obvious that the quality of food we eat must conform to the best standards possible. “Today, we are inaugurating a world class laboratory whose results are accepted not only in India, but across the world. Japan is one country which has the highest standards in health. Medicines can be administered in Japan only when the standards prescribed by the domestic FDA are actually approved. The USA FDA sometime has higher standards than that of the European Countries”, the Union Minister said, adding that quality of food certified by the Export inspection Agency is accepted by countries such as Japan, USA and the European Union.
He said the same certificate which is accepted in Japan, USA and EU will be issued right from Goa for any food that will be tested in the lab, including fish, vegetables,
