The Tuem gram sabha was abruptly called off after a brief start for the fourth time on Sunday, after the villagers alleged that the panchayat failed to give compensation to the affected villagers whose land was acquired for the proposed Tuem Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC).
The irate locals alleged that the government acquired the land in a wrongful manner. “People voted for panchas expecting they would solve our problems, but the panchayat supported the government,” said a local.
The villagers said they would defeat the panchayat members in forthcoming panchayat elections.
“We will elect panchas who will stand with us and we will only allow the gram sabha only after new panchayat is formed,” added the local.
Later, Tuem Sarpanch Prajkta Kannaik abruptly called off the gram sabha.
The gram sabha was presided over by Sarpanch Prajkta Kannaik. Deputy Sarpanch Vilasini Naik, Panchas Ganpatrao Pednekar, Suhas Naik, Uday Mandrekar, Swati Harmalkar, Ulhas Naik, secretary Shanti Harijan and BDO representative Karishma Morajkar were present.
