MARGAO
Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has dashed of a letter to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar with a plea to go for competitive bidding to ensure maximisation of profits to the State after assessing the quantum of the mineral ore.
Addressing the media, the Curtorim MLA said that Goa government should get the revenue because the mines belong to the people of Goa as per the Supreme Court order. “It is of critical importance that for the auctioning process to be a real success, all relevant information about the assets must be made available to all the competitive bidders and public as such a transparent route would remove once and for all mere auctioning process,” he said in his letter to the Chief Minister.
Replying to a question whether he is in favour of the resumption of mining operations in the State, Reginaldo said he is in favour of a mining process which passes the test of the Supreme Court. “Let the government start the process of mining and the Congress will support the government. But, the government has done nothing to initiate the process in the last one year. They are only fooling the mining dependents on resumption of mining without initiating the process,” he said.
He said the only way the mining operations passes the Supreme Court test is to first assess the quantum of ore and go for competitive bidding which will benefit the State and the people of Goa.
