Contraband worth Rs 25 lakh seized

A French national was arrested by Anjuna Police after a late-night drug raid in Siolim, police said on Friday.
Acting on specific information, a team from Anjuna Police Station carried out a raid between 8.35 pm and 11.20 pm on March 26 near the crematorium at Aradi, Oxel, Siolim.
During the operation, police detained 43-year-old Gaelle Louise Daniele Pavillon, who was allegedly found with a large quantity of suspected psilocybin-based drugs.
Police said the seized items included 136 grams of dried “magic mushrooms” worth about Rs 3.15 lakh, and 37 packets of “magic mushroom chocolates” weighing 1.811 kg, valued at around Rs 22 lakh. The total value of the seizure is estimated at about Rs 25.15 lakh.
The drugs were recovered from a yellow Yamaha Fascino scooter with registration number GA-03-AU-6720, which was in the possession of the accused at the time.
Anjuna Police registered a case under Section 22(c) of the NDPS Act. The accused was formally arrested in the early hours of March 27.
She was later produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Mapusa, who remanded her to five days’ police custody. Police said further investigation is underway.
