Despite joint operations by the forest department and locals from Kalay village, the fire at Kariamol-Kalay continued to rage for the third day.

“The fire had spread but the forest department and locals have been working hard to douse the fire,” Kalay Panch member Kishore Rama Gauns Dessai.

“The firefighting operations were made difficult as the site is in the interior and not accessible to vehicles. At present, teams are presently working to extinguish the fire.”

Meanwhile, a fire was also reported at Tudov ward of Netravali but it was brought under control by Thursday evening, informed Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) Cliffa Da Costa.

Similar was the case with a ground fire at Villian and Rivona. The fire at both places was brought under control by a forest department team.

ACF Minguel Fernandes confirmed that the fire at Cotarli-Sanguem and Gaya Dongor hill has been extinguished.

“However, the department is keeping a close watch on the hill to avoid a fresh fire in the area,” said Fernandes.
