THE GOAN NETWORK | MAY 21, 2025, 03:42 PM IST

Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane has announced closure of Dudhsagar gates in view of extremely heavy rainfall across Goa since Tuesday. The minister has also urged visitors to avoid waterfalls and high risk areas for safety reasons.

“The gates of Dudhsagar will remain closed to visitors. Please avoid venturing into other waterfalls as well, as they may pose significant risks due to strong currents, flash floods, and slippery terrain. Refrain from trekking or visiting these areas until conditions stabilise”, the minister stated.

Goa witnessed severe flooding on Tuesday following the heavy rainfall with roads being submerged, drains overflowing and leaking buildings leaving many stranded and in desperate need of help.

Rane also reminded citizens to stay updated with alerts from the India Meteorological Department, local advisories and to take all necessary precautions.

The IMD has issued a Red Alert, warning of very heavy to heavy rainfall across the state over the next 24 hours, with thunderstorms and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 70 kmph.

Severe waterlogging has been reported within the first 24 hours of pre-monsoon showers, inundating several areas, including the capital city. There have been multiple incidents of fallen trees, such as a mango tree collapsing near the North Goa Collectorate building in Panaji, which damaged over a dozen two-wheelers and disrupted traffic flow.
