The decision of whether he will be the chief ministerial candidate may not be announced immediately but there was overwhelming support for Gomes in the party, sources said.
Speaking to The Goan, Gomes said he preferred AAP because it was a new party with total focus on people’s welfare. “More than a party, AAP is a movement. In this party people matter more than the leaders and that is what has attracted me towards the party,” Gomes
said.
The former bureaucrat likened the traditional parties to old houses which cannot be maintained anymore and therefore he couldn’t resonate with these old established parties.
He said his close relationship with some opposition leaders will not come in the way over his functioning in AAP. “My relationship with some politicians in the opposition camp won’t impinge my functioning as an AAP leader,” Gomes said.
Gomes is supposed to be very close to Deputy Chief Minister and Mapusa MLA Francisco D’Souza.
Sources said that more leaders were expected to join the Aam Aadmi Party in days to come.
The Delhi Deputy Chief Minister has been moving around and meeting a cross-section of local leaders across the State.
