MARGAO
Former Margao Municipal Chairperson Savio Coutinho on Tuesday embraced the Congress party, saying he has joined the Congress with a mission, exuding confidence that Mission Margao will be successful with the blessings of Gods.
Welcoming Coutinho and his supporters in the party-fold, Congress party President Amit Patkar said the party has fulfilled the promise made on September 14 last to strengthen the party in Margao. He further said that leaders along with supporters are expected to join the Congress in various constituencies, exuding confidence the Congress would win both the Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 polls.
Coutinho was welcomed in the party by Congress leaders led by Patkar, Opposition leader Yuri Alemao, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, MLAs Alton D’Costa and Adv Carlos Alvares, South Goa district president Savio D’Silva and other party functionaries at the south district office.
A sworn enemy of Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Coutinho charged the MLA for deceiving the people of Margao by migrating into the BJP along with Congress-elected Councilors.
Disclosing plans to aggressively work to build the party in Margao, Coutinho said he plans to move door to door to expose the MLA and how the city has suffered on the developmental path over the years.
In his brief address, GPCC Chief Amit said he had assured Madgavkars on September 14 last to open an office in the constituency. “We have made a beginning in Margao today. We have plans at 15 other constituencies, where leaders and workers will join the Congress party”, he said adding that the Congress party will win both the Lok Sabha seats in 2024
Opposition leader Yuri Alemao charged that the Goa Cabinet has no collective agenda and that each Minister is running his portfolio as if he is the Chief Minister. “The Ministers are working as per their whims and fancies. The Chief Minister has lost control resulting in a chaotic situation”, he said, adding this is perhaps the worst Cabinet Goa has seen in recent times.
“We are a young team. The party leadership has entrusted with us with duties and responsibilities. But, we have no baggage, nor we are involved in any political fixing”, he said, while welcoming Savio into the party.
Welcoming Savio Coutinho into the party, MP Francisco Sardinha said many more people will join the Congress in the coming days.
