Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Tuesday said the upcoming Formula 4 circuit race would be a prestigious international sporting event that will place Mormugao on the global map. Speaking at the site in Sada, he appealed to citizens not to fall for misinformation spread by a few individuals.

“The Formula 4 event will be held from October 31 to November 2. It’s natural to have doubts since this is the first time, but I assure everyone it’s an international event that will help Mormugao shine,” Amonkar said. He added that many states had expressed interest, but Mormugao was chosen.

“This is not an EDM festival but a motorsport event expected to draw 15,000 visitors from across the world. We should not oppose it without understanding,” he said.

Amonkar dismissed rumours about demolition of compound walls of temples, schools or crematoriums, saying the chief minister had assured that no one would be inconvenienced.

The MLA said the race would boost tourism and the local economy. “Such races have been held only in two locations in India. Sada was chosen for its ideal setting,” he said.

The 3-km circuit will pass through Bogda, Bharat Lane and ITI areas, with the race lasting three hours daily. “There may be some parking restrictions, but no roads will be permanently blocked,” he said.

Amonkar said a new service road was being explored for residents. The government has signed a three-year contract for the event, which he said would bring lasting infrastructure and business benefits.

CM to meet citizens at Baina

Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar has urged citizens to meet CM Pramod Sawant at Ravindra Bhavan, Baina-Vasco, on Saturday evening to clarify their concerns.

Amonkar said the CM would personally address queries related to ongoing issues. “I appeal to everyone, irrespective of political affiliation, to attend the meeting, seek clarifications, and clear any doubts directly with the chief minister,” he said, adding that the interaction would help dispel misinformation and provide accurate information.
