In a major project to provide a platform for artistes in Pernem taluka, the foundation stone of the Rs 113 crore multi-purpose Ravindra Bhavan in Tuem was laid on Tuesday, to mark the auspicious occasion of Dussehra.
Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar and Pernem MLA Arlekar laid the foundation stone in the presence of Dhargal ZP Member Shrikrishna alias Nanu Harmalkar, Arambol ZP Member Radhika Palyekar, Morjim ZP Member Tara Hadwadkar, Torsem ZP Member Raghoba Kambli, Tuem Sarpanch Amita Salgaonkar, Parsem Sarpanch Madhusudan Satardekar, Mandrem Sarpanch Kiran Sawant, Paliem Sarpanch Radha Parab, Keri Sarpanch Darshana Naik and other panchas.
“This project will be one of the best cultural projects in the State which will showcase art and culture, train budding artistes and generate income through various activities,” said Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar, while speaking on the occasion.
He informed that the project will cover an area of 50,000 square metres, out of which the main multipurpose building will be constructed on 13,500 sq mtrs, while the remaining area is planned to be used as an open stage, space for various events, as well as facilities for stalls and shops.
Income generated from these facilities can be used for the maintenance, repair and, if possible, staff salaries, which will help the project become financially self-sufficient, said the MLA.
Senior artistes of the taluka should share their experience with budding artistes and eventually produce artistes who will earn a name at the national and international level.”
Stating that the government is providing full support to develop Mandrem constituency, Arolkar informed that a sub-agricultural divisional office under the agriculture department will be opened for the constituency in the next two days. He also expressed his desire to complete the library project in Tuem.
Responding to the criticisms from the opposition, the Mandrem MLA said they should come to the Ravindra Bhavan area and inspect the work instead of merely criticising the project.
Pernem MLA Praveen Arlekar said Pernem taluka has given the State a chief minister, deputy chief minister and a minister.
