Four arrested for assault, abduction and extortion of 2 men at Calangute

Calangute Police have arrested four persons in connection with the alleged assault, abduction and extortion of two men at a rented apartment in Calangute during the early hours of Tuesday.

According to police, the incident took place at around 2.30 am on August 5 at Flat No 407, Kamat Holiday Home, Gaurawado, Calangute.

In his complaint, Ravindra Yadav, originally from Rajasthan and presently residing at the apartment, alleged that a group of seven to eight persons, including two women, forcibly entered the flat and assaulted him and his friend, Ankit Kumar, using wooden sticks and pipes.

The complainant further alleged that the accused threatened to kill them and extorted Rs 27,000 by putting them in fear of death or grievous injury. The assailants then allegedly abducted Ankit Kumar and confined him at an undisclosed location.

Acting swiftly on the complaint, Calangute Police arrested four accused identified as Sai Jadhav (23), Sushil Sadafule (23), Gurvinder Singh Barar (43), all residents of Candolim, and Saraswati Kishor Sitapure (32), a resident of Naikawado, Calangute.

Police have registered an offence under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 140(4) (kidnapping/abduction), 333 (house trespass), 308(5) (extortion), 351 (criminal intimidation) read with Section 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Police are on the lookout for the remaining accused involved in the case.
