In a surprise move, French Actress Marianne Borgo who has all along been claiming that she has been held hostage in her Calangute home, on Monday, moved a proposal for settlement before a civil court in Mapusa.
The Mapusa court was to pass an order over the 75-year-old actress’ legal claim of the house she bought in 2008.
The lawyer of Borgo, Adv Benny Nazareth requested the judge to defer the order so that the opposite party can look into the settlement proposal and revert.
The court has now fixed the matter on February 2.
“We produced some additional documents in the court today. The court needed to look into the details and therefore deferred the matter on February 2,” Adv Benny said.
He also said the proposal for settlement was there right from before and it was not something new.
However, the counsel of the opposite party, Adv Balkrishna Theli told The Goan that the proposal of settlement came only today (Monday) and it was Adv Benny Nazareth who requested the judge to defer the order.
“We are considering it. We want to look into the details of the settlement proposal put forth by Marianne Borgo. We will submit our say on February 2,” Adv Theli said.
Last week, the French actress allegedly claimed that she has been held hostage in her home while she has been fighting a legal battle over the possession of her house.
She also claimed that she has been staying alone in the house as people who want to dis-posses her from the house have disconnected electricity and water supply.
Goa Police, however, said that it was not a case of hostage and the actress was free to move in and out of her house if she wished to.
The police also said that the actress had hired private security personnel who have been stationed around the house.
“Two parties “ the French actress and the opposite party “ are claiming possession of the house. It’s a civil matter which is for adjudication before the court. There is no law and order problem,” said Nidhin Valsan (IPS), SP North.
