Union Minister for Shipping & Water Resources Nitin Gadkari has underlined the need to conduct a study whether the proposed airport at Mopa can be linked by rivers a la Venice where tourists make it to the airport from their hotels dotting the shore and the river banks.
He also suggested to the hotels to set up floating jetties to facilitate tourists to reach their destinations after alighting at the airport, promising to clear the floating jetty proposals.
"Since the proposed Mopa airport will be commissioned soon, I have asked the officials to conduct a study whether tourists can make it to the airport from their hotels via inland waterways. We have seen this facility in Venice and I have told the officials to explore the possibility whether any river passing through
Mopa can be linked to the airport through the inland waterways," he said, adding ‘this will solve pollution as well as avoid congestion on the roads'.
Meanwhile, the Union Minister said his Ministry will grant approvals for
the hotels who are willing to build floating jetties to pave way for tourists to check
in the hotels directly from the airport via the
waterway.
"If the floating jetties are in place, tourists after alighting at the airport can go to the nearest port and head to the hotel via a ferry or boat,"
he said.
