Defending his decision to support the BJP-led government especially after the coalition had the requisite majority, Sanguem’s independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar said he wanted to ensure the uninterrupted development of Sanguem constituency.
On Wednesday, MLA Prasad Gaonkar went to meet locals in Sanguem, where he first garlanded the statue of Dayanand Bandodkar, and thanked locals for their support in his victory over BJP MLA Subhash Phaldessai.
Later, he met Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) councillors and inquired about council affairs.
Asked why had he decided to support the BJP-led government especially when he had defeated the BJP candidate and more so, since the BJP had mustered the required majority to form the government, Gaonkar replied: “I did so for the uninterrupted development of Sanguem constituency.”
“Once it was clear that BJP would form the govt, there was no point in staying away by not supporting the party which would form the govt. This is the reason I supported BJP, despite being an independent candidate,” Gaonkar said.
