Cooperation Minister Govind Gaude on Wednesday said the office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies will take all quasi-judicial steps by remaining in the ambit of the law to safeguard in the best possible way Visionaries Urban Credit Society depositors’ money.
The issue was raised through a ‘Calling Attention Motion’ by Curtorim MLA, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa.
Gaude meanwhile also advised members to educate the public to punctually attend AGMs of societies they are shareholders of for timely accountability. He said there are several instances where the public continued to deposit their money in such scam-hit societies, particularly through their pigmy collection route despite notices advising against it by RCS.
Recently an alleged scam amounting to Rs 39 crore was reported in the Visionaries Urban Cooperative Credit Society Limited with exposure mostly in villages of Salcete.
