MARGAO
Additional Secretary, Finance Vikas Gaunekar has been appointed the Presiding Officer to conduct the crucial election for the post of Margao Municipal Chairperson on October 12 at 11 am.
The Director of Municipal Administration Gurudas Pilarnekar has re-nominated Gaunekar as the Presiding Officer for the October 12 polls. He was appointed the Presiding Officer at the special meeting of the Margao Municipal Council called to discuss the no-trust motion against the ousted MMC Chairperson Ganashyam Shirodkar.
The no-trust motion was conducted by the Presiding Officer by show of hands, as is the convention in the civic body. However, long before the government came out with the Ordinance to hold the election of Municipal chairperson and vice-chairperson by show of hands, Gaunekar had asserted that there’s no provision in the Goa Municipalities Act mandating holding of election by secret ballot.
He had asked the media to show him the provision under the Goa Municipalities Act mandating the election of the Municipal chairperson by secret ballot.
