The results of Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) 2017 were declared on Monday, with Pratheek D’Souza Rebello topping in three subjects “ Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with 70, 72 and 74 marks respectively. However, Jairam alias Jay Kishor Naik topped in Biology with 74 marks.
While Pratheek is interested in getting into IIT, Jairam wants to take up medicine.
The average marks scored in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology are 20.53, 25.20, 29.47 and 38.34 respectively.
The State Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) had conducted GCET on May 9 and 10 across 15 centres in the State with 5116 students registering. Of these, 4964 candidates appeared for Physics, 4958 for Chemistry, 3448 for mathematics and 3517 for Biology.
Admissions to the professional degree courses in engineering, pharmacy, nursing and paramedical will be based on GCET. However, admissions to MBBS, BDS, BHMS and BAMS would be carried out on the basis of NEET (UG) conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The GCET was conducted and the results prepared in collaboration with IIT, Bombay. The results have however been evaluated and processed using electronic Objective Response Sheet (ORS) technology.
Speaking at a press conference, Director of Technical Education Vivek Kamat said, “From May 18 to May 26 we will accept form B/B1/B2 which is the application for admission to various professional degree courses. Also NEET and NATA results are not likely to be declared before May 26. But irrespective of whether the results are declared or not, students have to submit the forms “ B for engineering, B1 for architecture and B2 for MBBS and BDS. No forms for admissions will be accepted after May 26.”
These forms will be accepted at the Directorate of Technical Education, Porvorim and Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. Candidates will have to submit NEET/NATA results immediately upon declaration.
Questioned over the trend in results, SS Major of IIT Bombay said, “Considering the average, Chemistry and Mathematics are almost similar to last year. However, Physics average has gone down. The moment the paper is tough, preparation of students during the next year in Physics
