The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has issued notice to the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) for commencing work on a bridge between Cumbarjua and St Estevam islands in Tiswadi without complying with the coastal regulatory conditions laid down by the Authority.
The St Estevam Biodiversity management committee had made a representation to the GCZMA bringing to their notice that the GSIDC has commenced the work of the bridge without following the statutory conditions laid down by the coastal body before going ahead with construction work.
The GCZMA has posted the notice for hearing on Thursday, November 2.
The GCZMA had in March issued a show cause notice to GSIDC for construction of the bridge without obtaining permission from the coastal regulatory body.
The initial petition was filed by one Estevao Ribeiro seeking that permission for the bridge to be revoked. Ribeiro filed the petition seeking that direction to be issued to the Captain of Ports to immediately take necessary action to revoke the NOC dated 07.06.2019 issued to the GSIDC for the construction of a bridge from village Chanem-Kantor at Cumbarjua to Vantso atSt Estevam.
The villagers have been protesting against the alleged illegal construction being undertaken by the GSIDC and its contractor M/s K V J Builders & Developers Pvt. Ltd.
