Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Friday said, the party appointments made in Goa reflect a “generational change” and opined that the new young team has been entrusted with a huge responsibility.
Chidambaram, who was senior observer for the Goa Assembly elections and was a vital cog in the Congress’ electoral strategy think-tank, also said that the appointment of Digambar Kamat as the permanent invitee of the Congress Working Committee was “deserving”.
After much delay, the Congress had finally appointed on Thursday Calangute MLA Michael Lobo as leader of the legislature party and Opposition Leader and Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar as Deputy leader.
Aldona MLA, Carlos Alvares has been appointed the party whip.
The party also named Amit Patkar as the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee chief to fill the slot left vacant following the resignation of Girish Chodankar, who quit owning responsibility for the electoral debacle.
Chidambaram reacting to the appointments made in Goa said: “A huge responsibility has been cast on the young team. I am certain they will rise to the occasion and win the support of the people of Goa.”
He also welcomed the appointment of Kamat as CWC permanent invitee saying his dedicated service and experience had made him deserving of the honour.
