GF backs ST Mission protest on Feb 5

Sardesai offered his support when a delegation of the ST forum led by Rachol Sarpanch Joseph Vaz called on him and  handed over a memorandum demanding political reservations for the ST community.

Sardesai later told the media that he has  assured the Mission ST Reservation delegation that called on him that he will do everything in his power to actualise their long standing demand for political reservation. “I've stated my position many times earlier, and in this session of the Assembly also, I will emphatically place this demand. Naturally, I'll support their protest on 5th of Feb demanding this right”, he said.

In the memorandum, the Mission pointed out that due to its dedicated efforts and constant follow up, the Director of Tribal Welfare Department on has on February 2, 2023 moved a written proposal to Goa Government to request Central Government to issue notification to constitute Delimitation Commission for the purpose of Delimitation of Assembly and Parliamentary Constituencies in the state of Goa.

“On 21st July 2023 Goa Legislative Assembly unanimously passed private members bill moved by Ganesh Gaonkar, Scheduled Tribe MLA of Sanvordem to recommend and urge Central Government to reserve seats for Scheduled Tribes of Goa in Legislative Assembly.  Pramod Sawant, Minister for Tribal Welfare and Chief Minister of Goa have also given assurance on the floor of the house that he will lead the Joint Delegation of all parties to meet the Central Ministers to demand Political Reservation for the Scheduled Tribes of Goa”, the memorandum stated.

Saying that nothing concrete has come out of the decision, the memorandum said that the Mission Political Reservation has now announced Peaceful Morcha on Legislative Assembly of Goa on February 5 at 11.00 am and has appealed to the Fatorda MLA to support the movement in all possible ways and to join the said Peaceful Morcha along with your supporters in huge numbers.
