With the proposed housing colony in Cuncolim consisting of 2,600 units triggering a huge wave of resentment in Cuncolim, Goa Forward Cuncolim unit leaders led by former minister Joaquim Alemao has sought an appointment with party president and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai to stop the proposed colony from becoming a reality.
While Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai said the Goa Forward will not allow that it would go against the people of Cuncolim, Joaquim Alemao said the TCP department headed by TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai will not allow conversion of the proposed orchard land to settlement.
“I have checked up with our Housing Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar whether the Goa Housing Board has proposed any housing project in Cuncolim. Jayesh has categorically firmly denied that the Goa Housing Board has not proposed any housing scheme in Cuncolim,” Sardesai told The Goan.
When his attention was drawn to the reports that the GSUDA is working out a housing scheme under the Prime Minister housing for all scheme, the TCP Minister said that nothing would be allowed in Cuncolim which is not benefitting the local populace.
Former minister, Joaquim Alemao asserted that he had fought against the Housing Board housing scheme at Panzorconne during his tenure as MLA in 2003, and will not allow the 2,600 housing units in the village. “I have discussed the issue with Goa Forward party chief Vijai Sardesai. He has said that the Goa Housing Board is not involved in any such housing scheme. Goa Forward party leaders from Cuncolim will call on the TCP Minister on Friday morning with a plea to the government to scrap the proposed housing colony in the village,” Joaquim added.
CMC councillors representing the wards around the Cuncolim industrial estate have already opposed housing scheme.
