As the Congress did a flip flop on the issue of alliance with the Goa Forward Party, the political affairs committee of the regional party met at party headquarters on Thursday evening to take a call on the invitation sent by Congress Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao to party president Vijai Sardesai for a meeting on December 11 to discuss issues over an alliance.
While confirming that the party’s political affairs committee had met in the city here on Thursday, the Goa Forward chief, however, said the meeting will continue tomorrow since some of the members had to leave to attend to prior engagements.
He pointed out that the meeting took stock of the prevailing political situation in the state, including the invitation by Dinesh Gundu Rao to the party for discussion on December 11 to discuss issues on an alliance.
“Our meeting will continue on Friday, wherein the party will take stock of the situation and make a decision on Dinesh Gundu Rao’s invitation”, Sardesai said.
Sources in the know, however, said some members of the Goa Forward Political Affairs Committee have been let upset with the conflicting statements made by Congress leaders on the issue of alliance.
Sources pointed out that Congress Election Observer P Chidambaram’s statement denying any move for a tie-up with the Goa Forward has left some members of the regional outfit agitated, questioning over the flip flop by the Congress leaders when none other than Congress top leader Rahul Gandhi has given his nod for a Congress-Goa Forward alliance.
Sources further said some members of the GF Political Affairs Committee are believed to have wondered whether the subsequent invitation sent by Congress Goa Observer Dinesh Gundu Rao to party president Vijai Sardesai is a damage control exercise, coming against the backdrop of Chidambaram’s denial of the alliance.
Incidentally, the Congress flip flop over the alliance with the Goa Forward comes after GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar is reported to have expressed his dismay at the way party leaders held their hands with the Goa Forward leaders in Delhi, conveying a message to party leaders that the move did not go on well with the people.
