Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai on Friday said he was willing to back late Francis D’Souza’s son to keep the Mapusa MLA’s legacy alive, making it amply clear that Goa Forward was eyeing the Mapusa seat.
“When I had met Babush, we had discussed many political developments in the state of Goa as well as his constituency. I feel that he was looking at this son as a successor and I was willing to back him and back his son,” Sardesai said.
The TCP minister was responding to a specific query of The Goan whether Babush had ever broached the topic of his son’s political prospect when he was alive.
Sardessai along with GFP Vice-President Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate and others visited the residence of Mapusa MLA to pay respects to the departed leader.
Continuing, Sardessai said Francis D’Souza had kept a legacy in Mapusa and it was important to take that legacy forward.
“He used to win by record margins. Winning by 10,000 votes is near to impossible in Goa, but he has done it. He has won the hearts of the people of Mapusa,” he said.
“I think this legacy of Babush has to be kept alive and I hope and pray that his son will take this legacy forward,” he added dropping enough hints of his party’s strategy.
Mapusa MLA’s son, Joshua D’Souza is currently a councilor in Mapusa Municipal Council and has so far kept a very low profile.
The Goa Forward chief further said Francis D’Souza was a tall leader who believed in simple living and high thinking.
“Babush knew the pulse of the people, what they wanted and what they did not. He also guided the new legislators,” he said.
Echoing his party president’s views, Monserrate said he hoped Babush’s legacy is taken forward by his son.
“I am sure he will be having full support what his father has been getting all along from the people of Mapusa,” Monseratte said.
