GI tag on Bhaji Pav, Fish Curry Rice planned

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said plans are afoot to get Geographical Indication (GI) tags for traditional Goan food items and other products.

In his budget speech, Sawant said the government proposed to file new Geographical Indication applications for Goan produce and products like Coconut Broom (Saran), Goan Bhaji Pav, Khatkatem, Kismoor, Fish Curry Rice, Manganem, Bangdeanchi Uddmethi and Sat Shiro Bhendo.

A Geographical Indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.
