Barely three weeks after the shocking deaths of two brothers from starvation in Margao, another tragic incident was reported in Ponda when a teenager is also believed to have died of starvation on Tuesday night.
The deceased old girl hails from Bihar and was residing at her uncle’s house in Ponda along with her brother for the past 4 years.
Police investigations have revealed that the girl had been fasting on four days, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for the past few months without consuming even a drop of water.
At about 8 pm on Tuesday night, the girl suddenly felt a pain in her chest and was admitted in a critical condition at the Ponda Sub-District Hospital for treatment. The girl, however, died while undergoing treatment.
Late at night, Ponda Police Inspector Tushar Lotlikar visited the hospital and inquired about the deceased with her family members. He was informed that the deceased girl had not taken consumed even a drop of water while fasting from Monday morning.
