The ‘Goenchya Kul-Mundkarancho Awaaz’ (GKMA) has threatened to disturb the political meetings of BJP and MG Party if cases of ‘The Goa Daman and Diu Agriculture Tenancy Act 1964’ are not transferred back to the revenue court from the civil court.
The State government had transferred the cases from the revenue court to the civil court two years ago.
Addressing a news conference in the city on Wednesday, GKMA Convenor Ramkrishna Jalmi demanded the rollback of government's decision to transfer ‘Aframentos’ land to lease holders and give the status of tenants to those who actually cultivated it.
GKMA had convened over 100 meetings across the State to draw the government's attention over the issue of the amendment to the Act.
“We condemn the government's attempt to give legal status to landlords (lease holders) under Aframento. They never cultivated this land. Tenant status should be given to the members of ‘Bahujan Samaj’, who cultivated these lands,” Jalmi demanded.
He further said the government has not only tried to subvert the constitutional mandate to recognise the rights of Kul-Mundkar, but now tried to give legal status to the ruling class of the Portuguese regime.
“The government first betrayed the Bajuhan Samaj by transferring cases to the civil court and now it is giving Aframentos right to lease holders. We will ask the BJP and MGP about the issue during their political meeting,” Jalmi said.
GKMA has congratulated Umesh Talavnekar for questioning the status of ‘Kul-Mundkar' issue to Forest Minister Rajendra Arlekar at a public function.
“We will do the same thing when BJP and MGP convene its election meetings,” Jalmi said.
“The only interest of Aframento holders is to sell the land to builders,” he alleged.
