Goa’s MIA enters elite top 100 global airports list in first year

Panaji: Goa’s Manohar International Airport (MIA) has been ranked among the top 100 airports globally by Skytrax 2024, within its first year of operations. This recognition marks a significant milestone for Goa, with MIA joining an elite group of five Indian airports on this prestigious list, which also includes GMR’s Delhi and Hyderabad airports.

Mr. R. V. Sheshan, CEO of GMR Goa International Airport, attributes this achievement to the dedication to passenger satisfaction and operational efficiency. He credits the entire airport ecosystem, including government agencies, airline partners, service providers, and all associated personnel, for this success.

Since its inauguration on January 5, 2023, MIA has served over 5 million passengers. The airport has expanded its connectivity to 25 domestic and 4 international destinations. Major domestic airlines such as Indigo, Akasa Air, Vistara, and SpiceJet, along with international carriers like Air India, Oman Air, Indigo, and TUI, operate from MIA.

MIA implemented the Digi Yatra program on April 1, 2024, utilizing facial recognition technology to enhance the check-in process. The ongoing Phase 3 Stage 1 expansion aims to accommodate approximately 8 million passengers annually, expected to be completed before the Winter schedule of 2024.

In November 2023, MIA was ranked among the top 15 airports in India by the Airport Authority of India. It has also received multiple awards, including “Best Passenger Experience Design” by CII, "Best Sustainable Greenfield Airport," and "Best Environmental Practices." Additionally, MIA achieved IGBC Platinum Rating for the Passenger Terminal and won the “NIIF’s Health & Safety Excellence Award-2024.”

MIA’s sustainability initiatives have earned it global recognition. The airport has been acknowledged for its environmental practices and safety measures at various international platforms, including the International Airport Summit in London and the NIIF’s Environment and Social Summit 2024.
