Goa Board Schools switches to CBSE calendar; class to start from April 1

Panaji: In a major decision, the Goa government has announced that the new academic year 2025-26 will commence from April 1 for students of Class 6 to 10 and 12, as against its prevailing practice of starting in June. 

Aligned with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the changes will apply to students of all government, government-aided, and unaided recognized schools across the state.

The Goan was the first to report about the likely changes to the academic session. 

As per the circular issued by Director of Education Shailesh Zingade, the government has taken decision to commence academic year from April and that the classes for that month will be held upto 11.30am. The summer vacation will be from May 1 to June 

The regular school timings will commence from June 4, after the summer break. 

For students upto Class 5, the academic term will commence from June 4 onwards. 

To ensure smooth implementation of the new schedule, the Education Department has directed schools to take appropriate action to ensure classes commence in April.

PANAJI: In yet another incident of attack by a ferocious dog, Vinil Salgaonkar, a local from Assagao was attacked by a Rottweiler late last night. The victim sustaining severe bite injuries to his left leg.
