Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said hinterland tourism and bird tourism would be promoted on a big scale in the State.
He was addressing bird lovers after inaugurating the 3rd Bird Festival of Goa 2020 organised by the Forest Department at Valpoi in Sattari taluka. The festival will culminate on Sunday.
Fifty-two delegates, including those from foreign countries, students and bird lovers have gathered for the event.
“Goa has good road connectivity and so also all the good birding sites which are not very far from the coastal areas,” the CM said and added, “The forest department will provide a platform for naturalists, experts, forest officers, bird photographers to meet and share their insights. This will open new vistas for ecotourism in Goa’s hinterland.”
Speaking further, the chief minister said: “Goa is home to over 450 plus species of birds, both residents and migratory. Goa has an exceptionally rich biodiversity cushioned by the Western Ghats which is emerging as an ecological and hinterland tourism destination for birders and bird tourism.”
Others present on the occasion were Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Subhash Chandra, Post Master General (Maharashtra Circle) Vinod Kumar and APCCF Santosh Kumar.
On the occasion, the chief minister released a postal cover brought out by Goa postal authorities.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Subhash Chandra welcomed the gathering while Post Master General (Maharashtra Circle) Vinod Kumar highlighted the importance of special postal cover, which was released on the occasion. Dr Dayanand Rao compered the inaugural session and Shri Kuldeep Sharma, proposed the vote of thanks.
