In preparation for the Lok Sabha 2024 elections, Goa is making sure that everyone can vote. The State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities and the Chief Electoral Officer, with guidance from Ramesh Verma, IAS, are working hard to make voting accessible for all eligible citizens.

They've checked all polling booths to make sure they're accessible. They added ramps and other things for people with disabilities. They found 9423 people with disabilities on the voting list, and 8 polling booths will have employees with disabilities.

They're providing transport for people with disabilities and seniors. They've upgraded polling station buildings, ensuring they're all on the ground floor. They've made separate lines for people with disabilities and seniors and provided extra wheelchairs. Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, said, "It's important that everyone can vote. These efforts aim to help people with disabilities vote easily." Sudesh Gaude, State Nodal Officer for Accessible Election, added, "We're committed to making sure everyone's voice is heard."

Taha Haaziq, Secretary to the Office of the Commission for Persons with Disabilities, is leading this effort. Alongside him,  Phulrani Kinlekar and Ferdrika Menezes will raise awareness in North Goa, and Patric Desouza will do the same in South Goa.

They've arranged special transport and ensured all polling booths have ramps and accessible toilets. They're also using technology to help people with disabilities access election information.

Training sessions have been held for polling staff to ensure they know how to help voters with disabilities.
