Working President of Goa Forward Party Kiran Kandolkar on Friday announced the candidature of his wife and Colvale ZP member, Kavita Kandolkar, as candidate for the Tivim constituency for the 2022 assembly election.
“Tivim voters have an opportunity to create history and elect a woman as their representative in the assembly. Women voters outnumber men in Tivim and we expect all women, youth and others to stand by the GFP candidate,” Kandolkar said.
He said the decision to field Kavita in Tivim has been decided only after having a discussion with GFP President Vijai Sardesai and all the office-bearers of the party.
He further disclosed that all panchayat members, sarpanchas, former panch members and party workers of Tivim unanimously decided that Kavita should be the candidate for Tivim.
“If we want to teach the present corrupt government in the State a lesson, then the voters will have to take some responsibility,” he said.
The GFP working president also hinted that he could be the party’s candidate in Aldona.
“People of Aldona are of the opinion that Kiran Kandolkar should contest from the constituency in the assembly election. The party will take an appropriate decision in the matter,” he said.
Kandolkar said that GFP has so far fixed 10 candidates in various constituencies.
“We have candidates in other constituencies too but we do not want to simply make announcements, as we are planning to have an alliance with other opposition parties,” he said.
People in the State want all opposition parties to join forces against the BJP but the decision has been dragging as some leaders have ego problems.
“If all opposition parties come together to fight the next assembly election then it will be difficult for BJP to get seats in single digit,” he said.
