Making the announcement on Monday, Goa RSS Prant Sanghchalak Subhash Velingkar who formed the rebel group after he was relieved of his position at Goa RSS, said the decision was not a surprising one as that was always the plan.
“We had in the beginning said that after the elections, the prant would be dissolved. It was not an afterthought but a decision that was taken in the beginning only. After the elections, we wanted to take the opinion of the entire sangh together, unlike in the BJP. We therefore had ground level, taluka, mandal, district and state-level discussions before making the announcement,” he said.
The group had its first meeting on whether to dissolve or not on February 8 and the last was held on Sunday where unanimous voice called for dissolution.
Velingkar said the officials and workers who had decided to move out of the main sangh would return back to their original designations as of Monday itself.
Speaking about the decision to move away from the main sangh, he said the decision was not an easy one but had to be done because of the pressure they were facing.
“From the first day, we were together. It was so painful for us to break apart. Staying within the sangh body, we faced a lot of pressure as were told what to do and what not to do. There came a time where they suggested we withdraw from our struggle. They were preferably working with the BJP. What the Congress had done in the past,
the BJP has today taken two steps further and done the same thing again. So we wanted to defeat the BJP and create a new government. It had taken us six months,” he said.
As far as the election results are concerned, Velingkar said though BJP didn’t consider them a threat, the work they put into the GSM would reflect in the results later this week.
