Goa set for wet spell, heavy rain forecast from June 10

The Met Department forecast on Saturday that heavy rainfall is “very likely to occur” at isolated places over the State over June 10, 11 and 12, before the monsoons finally hit Goa on June 13.   

On Saturday, there were light rain showers that were witnessed at isolated places in the State. There was also a rise in the maximum and minimum temperatures over both districts recorded. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in the capital city, and was 34°C, while the lowest minimum temperature at 27°C was recorded at Panaji and Mormugao.   

Meanwhile, Pernem received one centimeter of rainfall. Over the next four days, the Department has forecast light to moderate rains and thundershowers which are “very likely to occur at many places over North and South Goa.”  

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightening and gusty winds reaching up to the speed of 40-50 kilometers per hour are very likely to occur at isolated places over the State on Sunday.   

Squally weather with winds upto 30-45 kilometers per hour are likely to prevail over the Southwest Arabian Sea, off the Somalian Coast, and the Southeast Arabian Sea, off the the Maldive-Lakshadweep area and Kerala coast. Fishermen have been advised not to venture out into these areas. However, there has been no warning issued for fishermen off the coasts of Goa and South Maharashtra for the next two days starting June 8. However, fishermen off the coast of Karnataka-Kerala have been advised to stay away from the sea till June 13.
