The Goa Women’s Forum on Friday staged a protest against the government’s decision to implement the Deposit Refund Scheme (DRS). Led by GWF convenor Lorna Fernandes, the protesters demanded that the scheme be scrapped, saying the government had not held consultations with consumers.
Lorna said that although a notification on the DRS was issued in 2024, the government has yet to hold consultations with consumers, who are the biggest stakeholders. “Consumers have expressed fears that personal details may be exposed under the scheme. Hence, it is necessary for the government to hold consultations with consumers before going ahead with the implementation,” she said.
